The Martina Show

On Friday, I went to a new show – The Martina Show.

It was very interesting.

Martina Show 1Lots of creativity, but very minimal in other ways.

The opening act was a hula hoop dance.

Now, I have a hula hoop somewhere in my inventory, but I never thought of using it in a dance.

There were some issues with timing, but it was a very creative dance.

I don’t think the dancers were using a mover system, but rather moving manually, which probably accounts for some of the timing issues.

Minimal set, no fancy effects, but a lot of creative thinking.

Martina Show 2After the hula hoop dance, it was time for the frogs to take to the stage.

Yep, you read that right.

Dancing frogs.

Delightfully adorable as they danced the Charleston.

It was a medley of the Charleston and a rock song, with a cute back-n-forth between the dancers.

The frogs finished up, took their bows, and handed the stage over to Jennifer Beals.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Flashdance. 😀

Martina Show 3Again, a minimal set, but effective.

It was a challenge to get a picture of this act, as she was dancing and tumbling all over the place.

She danced to the song “What a Feeling” from Fame.

After impressing everyone with her gymnastic and dance skills, it was time for another act.

This time two clowns took to the stage.

The scene is the interior of a beauty salon, and one clown begins to style the other’s hair.

Martina Show 4Sadly, RL called me away and I didn’t get to see the end of this act.

I’m told, however, that the hairdresser clown gave the other a huge afro, which resulted in a chase scene around the stage. 😛

There were a couple of other acts, which I also did not get to see.

I’m not sure if there are any additional performances of this show planned, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing more from Martina.

Some of these acts are more performance art than dance, but nevertheless entertaining.

It will be interesting to see what she comes up with next.

Sinners Burlesque – The Bat Show

On Friday, the Sinners Burlesque troupe hosted a charity event for Bat World, part of the “The Truth About Bats & Avies” event run by SL Goth.

The show was spectacularly spooky, with, of course, lots of bats. 😀

Sinners Bat Show 1A trio of scary bat dancers opened the show.

I don’t usually set my lighting to midnight for shows, because I find it difficult to take pictures.

However, for this act, I must admit that the shot I took at midnight is better.

I love the silhouette of the dancers against the huge moon.

Very spooky, indeed!

Sinners Bat Show 2After the trio exited the stage, Aura took to the stage for a very informative and beautiful routine.

I had no idea how fragile bats can be.

Light pollution affects them, as does the use of pesticides.

Aura’s act was beautiful, but haunting.

Apropos for Halloween. 🙂

Sinners Bat Show 3Next up was Sanne, dancing on a rather scary looking bat.

I didn’t record the names of the songs they danced to, but they were all slow, spooky, and hauntingly gorgeous.

The glowing red eyes in the background was a nice touch.

After Sanne, Aura took to the stage again.

Sinners Bat Show 4This time it was more of a traditional Halloween set, with a bit of goth thrown in. 😀

After rising from her coffin, she danced, and then was mobbed by her flock of bats and vanished.

A cool effect. 😛

Join the Sinners Burlesque group to stay updated on all their happenings.

In addition to events like these, they also do regular cabaret/burlesque shows.

A wonderful troupe with some amazingly creative dancers.

First Artiste Show

Le Artiste Logo 512Yesterday I had the pleasure of dancing in a show at Yummy’s new venue, Le Artiste.

It’s a small, intimate, casual theater and I love the vibe of it.

There were, of course, technical glitches, but the show went wonderfully well.

I started off by swinging from a chandelier (it was a ton of fun, and not nearly as complicated to work out as I had thought).

Lil was an adorable Tinkerbell who took us on a dark journey to Never Never Land.

Aura’s number was incredible – she danced, she crawled on the ceiling, she floated – just amazing. 🙂

I am in love with the creative freedom that I have with the Artiste.

Things that I would never have attempted before suddenly seem possible – easy, even.

Yes, sometimes it has been incredibly frustrating, trying to learn a new way of doing things.

I still struggle with it.

But I am in awe at the things people are able to do with it.

I can’t wait to see what marvelous things will be at the next show.

I wanted to post a picture from the show, but unfortunately, I was so busy I forgot to snap some!

So, you’ll just have to come see for yourself. 😀

An Inspiring Weekend of Dance

DanceQueensGalaxyThis weekend was the Dance Queens ‘Dance Galaxy’ festival.

Held over two days and featuring 14 different dance troupes, it was an amazing event.

Kudos to BabyPea von Phoenix and Diawa Bellic, the juggernauts behind the scenes.

For most of the two days, the sim was full, as audiences enjoyed the dance stylings of troupes like Spirit Light Dance Company, the A&M Mocap Maniacs, the Starlite dancers, Fusion Dance Crew, and many more.

From an audience perspective, the shows went off without a hitch.  At many of the performances, there was little to no wait time between acts.

If you didn’t go, you missed out!

New Stuff?

Reading through my feed today, I came across a post about a new AO at Tuty’s – the Burlesque AO.  So, of course, I had to go see it!

I tried out several of the walks and bought them, because I know I’ll use them in routines.  And then I tried out the stands, and kicked myself, because I ended up just buying the whole AO. 😦

There are 21 stands (many of which I really liked and would be great used as transition animations in dances) and I absolutely loved some of the sits.  So, it was cheaper to buy the whole package, even after my dumb earlier purchase of the individual walks.  If you like burlesque, check it out!

I also saw a post about a new dance chair at Henmations.  After checking it out, I’m not really sure if it’s new or not.  At $2700L for the copy version, it’s a little pricey.  And when I tried it out, the very first dance I selected made me dance through the chair.  So, not something I’ll be buying.  Check it out for yourself – maybe I missed something. 😛

Don’t forget, today and tomorrow is the Dance Queens Dance Galaxy Festival – two whole days of dance, dance, dance!  There are some great troupes performing, and I’ll be in two show on Sunday, so stop by and say hi.

Have a good weekend!
