Choreography Theory

Yummy and I often get into deep discussions about what makes choreography ‘good.’

For me, other’s choreography is often like art – I know what I like when I see it.

I don’t know how other people choreograph, because it’s not generally something you watch other people do.

You could, but it would probably be incredibly boring, because much of what goes on is internal – personal decisions about what will/won’t look good, how to put things together, what overarching concept the choreographer is trying to achieve.

When I choreograph, it starts with an idea – sparked from a song I’ve heard, a costume I’ve seen, a fantastic prop piece I’ve found, or it can all start with the end vision.

I never know.

I went out internet searching for information on choreography theory.

What I found was a good Prezi presentation (albeit with a few errors) about choreography theory.

You can find it here.

It’s worth a watch, if only for the fantastic Fosse video embedded in it. 😀

I’ve long wanted to do a class on Formations, and I think that will be the next course I write curriculum for.

If you have a large stage and multiple dancers, formations are essential to keeping the audience engaged.

Choreographing for a group is very different than choreographing for a solo or duet.

The presentation did remind me, however, of my love for dance – especially Fosse.

God, I love Fosse.

So much so, that I was inspired to create a couple of poses from the video in the presentation.

I love the lean back pose the girls strike in the video at various times, so I made one. 🙂

I also made another pose that I think will work nicely as a transition pose for several 60s dances, like Abranimations The Jerk.

I am putting them out in a box at my theater for free, so stop by and pick them up. 🙂

Turn left as you enter the theater and the box is on the wall – touch and ye shall receive.

(Also, you could hit up my subscribo right above it while you’re there.) 😀

Happy Friday!

As the school year winds to a close, RL is intruding more and more on my SL time.

I was so busy yesterday I didn’t even have time to log in! 😦

Hopefully after the next couple of weeks are over, things will get back to normal and I will have a more set routine.

Until then, I’ll do my best to keep blogging!

One of the things I’m hoping to start is a series of posts on creators – places where I like to go for props, poses, particles – anything you might use in a routine.

I have a few creators already in mind, but I would love to hear from you – what places are ‘go-to’ stores for you when trying to find something particular?

I hope to be able to interview some of the creators as well, but given everyone’s busy schedules, I’m not sure how many will be able to participate.

Regardless, I will be doing some posts on them. 🙂

At least it’s Friday – Happy Weekend, Everyone!

LOTD #103

LOTD 103Since I’ve been trying to distract myself, I took a couple of trips over to the Pose Fair.

A guaranteed way to deplete my L$ supply. 😛

The pic was taken using Mmm…Kay’s Forest Photo Cube.

It’s a rezzable scene with trees, grass, rocks, and lots of adorable poses built in.

After discovering this ‘hang from tree’ pose, I hunted around for an appropriate outfit.

A few minutes of digging in my costumes folder and voilá – fairy costume!

Animation Updates

Yesterday I was busy sim-hopping, visiting my list of animation stores and updating the information.

I have a page on the blog for animation stores, and I try to visit at least once a month.

I list the most recent releases (if I can find any) for each store.

Sadly, it seems like more and more animation stores are sitting idle.

Sine Wave and Henmations haven’t released anything new in ages.

Several animation stores have released new AO’s, but no new dances.

Humanoid has released a new series of Angie dances, so be sure to check those out.

And a few of the pose stores I follow have regular new releases.

I tried to visit 3FX to update their listing, but I cannot get into the sim.  ??

Not sure if they are closed or something was just wonky.  (It was Tuesday, after all!)

Lately I find myself going to Abranimations more and more.

The quality of dances there has greatly improved over what they used to be, the prices are very reasonable, and he generally offers mirrored dances with a pack.

I didn’t, however, see the daily dance sale board. 😦

Do you have any animation/pose stores that aren’t on my list you’d like me to update?

If so, please let me know!

New Stuff

Several new things I’ve stumbled across in the last day or so:

WoW Skins has released appliers for the Maitreya mesh body.  Yay!!

The Glam Affair skins are nice, but I have a lot of WoW Skins I’ve picked up here and there, so it will be good to have options.

Oh, and WoW just announced a 40% off sale on everything in their mainstore from Jan 6-9, hurry on over and see what steals you can find!

A&M has released a new dance – Beyonce’s 7/11, be sure and check them out.

I am horribly behind on updating the animation stores, so I am hoping to get that done soon.

I did see that KaTink has released some new poses and !bang has a new couple’s pose out at the OneWord event.

FaMESHed is also going on right now – I picked up a super cute coat/legging set from Rebel Hope.

You can also head over to Uber and check out the offerings there.

Fosse Poses

I always try to keep an eye out for new pose and animation stores.

Many times they are just ‘new to me’ stores.

However, I was excited to see Psyche from MaHal post about a set of ‘Fosse’ poses.

I am a huge fan of Fosse and headed right over to check them out.

I totally stole Pysche’s pic (hope she doesn’t mind!), but the poses were amazing – and mirrored poses are included.

I bought both packs and picked up a few other sets while I was there as well.

I will be adding Chisa to my list of animation/pose stores.

New Stuff!

There hasn’t been a lot of new dance releases lately, so I’m happy to report on a couple of them. 🙂

Abranimations has released a new ‘Slow Burlesque’ series of dances.  HUMANOID has released a new set of ‘Kim’ dances – labeled as ‘dark, sexy’ dances.  Be sure to stop by both places and check them out.

On the non-dance animation front, oOo Poses has released two new sets of poses – ‘Avenger,’ a set inspired by cemetery sculptures, and ‘Henrietta,’ 5 poses designed for a bit of fun in-motion movements.  Check out a preview of them here if you’re interested.  These are part of FiftyLindenFriday, so hurry on over!
