The Night Theater Gets Wicked

I spent most of the weekend flitting around to different dance shows (there were a LOT!).

TNT Wicked 1One of the shows I attended was The Night Theater’s performance of ‘Wicked.’

Aelva and her crew are very creative and talented, and this show will not disappoint.

The show opens with some seemingly sweet fairies lounging around.

Until the webs start to appear.

Aelva, Sarah, and Amethyst performed this number, complete with lots of lovely special effects.

After the spiderwebs were cleared away, it was time for one of my favorite numbers.

TNT Wicked 2Dancing to ‘Wild Thing’ by Tone Loc, these skeletons were the life of the party. 😀

Martty, Aelva, and Amethyst were skeletally fabulous in this inventive and creative number.

It’s not often that you get to see skeletons doing the bump-n-grind.

Once the skeleton party retired from the stage, it was time for a Frankenstein number.

When I saw this act the first time, I was again impressed with the creative thinking.

TNT Wicked 3Changing the perspective is a visually effective way to catch the audience’s attention.

It also allows the dancers to be creative with fancy mover routes. 😛

I love the purple lightning effects that they wear.

The build is perfect as well – I love the pentagram formed by the beams of the structure.

This act ends with them both disappearing in a cloud of black smoke – a fantastic effect.

TNT Wicked 4The next act was to a song by The Pistol Annies – ‘I Feel a Sin Coming On.’

With a title like that, you know it’s going to be a fun routine. 😀

Aelva, Sarah, and Amethyst were fa-BOO-lous as witches in this number.

I love the swampy setting.

Cauldrons, floating bodies, witches on broomsticks – what more could you want for a Halloween show?

After the witches vanished (literally), it was time for the last act of the evening.

TNT Wicked 5Dancing to ‘Not Myself Tonight’ by Christina Aguilera, the dancers entertained us while the butler served us drinks.

In a cemetery.

Because, you know, it’s Halloween.

Apparently they stopped by after their visit to the guillotine. 😛

This is a fun show, and if you missed it, you still have another chance.

There will be another performance on Saturday, October 31, at 9am SLT.

Winter Wishes

When I saw a notice that the Night Theater was doing a ‘Winter Wishes’ show, I had to go.  I love the creativity of the acts that I see there.

I was not disappointed.

WWFairies

The opening act was a darling number with 4 little gold snowflake fairies.

The particle effects were well done, and I love the ending pose that I captured here.

WWRiverThis set was a song I had not heard before – River by Sarah McLachlan.

A beautiful song and I love how this set captured the imagery of it.

The skater in the background was a nice counterpoint to the dancer in front.

WWCookiesThen came the dancing gingerbread cookies!

This number was chock-full of sweetness and the little gingerbread couples swing-dancing to the music was adorable.

WWReindeer

And who could forget these sexy reindeer?

I love the costumes in this number.

If you haven’t seen this show yet, there are still a couple of performances, I believe.

Do yourself a favor and enjoy some holiday cheer courtesy of The Night Theater.

The Night Theater is Wonderfully Wicked

Yesterday I attended the latest production of The Night Theater.  I hadn’t planned on attending the show, but I’m so glad I did!

The show was wonderfully creative and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  The stage is not huge, there were only a few dancers in each number, and it was one of the best shows I’ve seen lately.  I snapped a few pics, but they do not do the show justice.  I loved the Frankenstein number – the creativity was so inspiring.  I was so distracted I forgot to snap a pic, darn it!

I did, however, get a pic of the ‘Funky Cold Medina,’ skeleton-style.

Nigh Theater 2_001

The headless dancers in the finale were a little creepy, but oh so entertaining!

Nigh Theater 3_001

If you haven’t seen it yet, you have one more chance.  Run, don’t walk, to the last performance!  It’s on Saturday, November 1, at 1pm SLT.  You won’t be disappointed.  😀

I checked the Dance Queens blog today and was happily surprised to find three (3!) new posts for dance shows.

Of course, dance shows are going on all the time, but having that many posts in one day is a rarity anymore.

So, in case you missed it, they are:

  • Les Jardin de Paris is putting on their “Notre-Dame des Parisll” show this Friday at 12:30pm SLT.  As always, IM DameLessage Igaly for reservations.
  • The Blue Velvet troupe is performing at the Royal Opera House on Sunday, November 9, at 2pm SLT.  This troupe is new to me, and I’ve never been to the Royal Opera House, so this show is on my ‘to-visit’ list.
  • The Spirit Light Dance Company is presenting their new show ‘Decades One’ this Sunday at 12pm SLT.  This is one of two ‘Decades’ shows they will be performing.  There is an admission fee of $250L for this show, and you must reserve your seat.

I wondered whether charging admission for dance shows would become a regular part of dance shows.  It seems it might be.  Of course, for big productions, it is a way for troupes to recapture ‘up-front’ some of the expense of producing the shows.  It will be interesting to watch this trend as it develops.

The Night Theater is also performing their ‘Wonderfully Wicked’ show this weekend and next, so be sure to check them out as well.  This is also the last weekend (I believe) to catch Euphoria’s amazing ‘Superhero’ show.  You get to ride around on a train from place to place as you view the acts – quite a nice experience, as set-up for the next act happens while you are traveling and looking at the city build.

Tomorrow is Friday – almost the weekend.  Enjoy your Thursday!

Night Theater – Dreams of Spring

Yesterday I happened to catch the newest production of the Night Theater called ‘Dreams of Spring.’

I must say, I really enjoyed the show.  There was no emoting, but the sets were well-designed and the choreography was good.

I’ll just let the pics speak for themselves. 🙂

The next performance of the show is on April 19, so be sure to check it out!
