Region Access Changes – Who Gets In?

Earlier this week, I caught a blog post by Inara Pey about changes that Linden Lab will be rolling out for region access.

Basically, the number of avatars who can access a region has increased.  The amount of the increase depends on the type of region.  A full region will increase by 10%.  So if you have a full region (usually 100 avatar limit), that limit will now be 110 avatars.

There is a caveat, however. The extra 10% of avatars are limited to Premium members.  I happen to be a Premium member, so this is a nice perk.

It immediately made me wonder about access to events (shopping and dance events came to mind first).  If there is a full region dance event, for example, what does access then look like?  Normally, once the 100 avi limit is reached, everyone would get a ‘region full’ notice.

Now, however, it appears that if the limit is 100, it will work a bit differently.  100 avatars can still get in.  But the limit is actually now 110, with that extra reserved for Premium members.  So if you are not premium, once there are 100 avis on the sim, you’ll get the ‘region full’ notice.  But if you are a Premium member and there are only 100 people on the sim, you’ll be able to get in.

I can see how this would be frustrating to people who are not Premium members, but this is a nice perk for those of us who pay to be Premium members.

You can read more details about the changes in Inara Pey’s article linked below, as well as an article from Ciaran Laval here.

One other thing that I wondered about was regions where the limit has been lowered, as often happens with popular dance events.  According to Ciaran, if you have lowered the limit (say to 50 from 100 on a full region), then LL will automatically assign 10% of the limit to Premium members.  Which means that the limit for non-Premium members will be 45 avis, with the other 10% of the 50 avi limit (5 avis) assigned to Premium members only. Something to keep in mind if/when you are setting limits for your events.

The End of 21 Shoe

21Shoe is closing?! *sobs*
With all the frustration and lag that accompanies the many events in SL (like C88 or FaMESHed), I wonder why mainstore shopping isn’t more of a thing? Would you rather shop at an event (with many designers in one place) or at a mainstore? Why?

Moni's World

It is with a sad shoe-loving’ heart that I tell you all that 21 Shoe is closing. According to the website:

Dear 21Shoe Fans,

We are sorry to announce the closing of the 21Shoe Event. We have loved every minute of bringing you some of the best SL designers in all their exclusive goodness. We hope you’ll continue to support SL designers at their main store locations and continue to spoil your toes with all the grid has to offer.

As a farewell, some of our designers will be putting up one last 21Shoe offering for July, but we will not be able to offer a catalog of those offerings. Please watch group notices for more information directly from these vendors!(read more here)

So one of the designers that is offering something for a final farewell is Essenz.

Hi all,

I’m happy that Essenz could have been a…

Aziraphale – ATP – Good Omens

ATP Good Omens LogoOne of my favorite events opened yesterday and I can’t wait to show you some more of the amazing items available!

Good Omens centers around the arrival of the Anti-Christ, and thus the Apocalypse.

Two of the main characters are Crowley (a demon) and Aziraphale (an angel).

Crowley is described as “an Angel who did not so much Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards.” (pg. ix)

Crowley has grown attached to Earth and humans and keeps trying to convince his superiors that, if left alone, humans devise many more ways to harm each other than any demon could ever imagine.

During his long tenure on Earth, Crowley has come to a sort of ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with his Heavenly counterpart, Aziraphale.

Aziraphale is quite a contrast to Crowley (as expected), and upon meeting him, according to the novel, people “formed three impressions: that he was English, that he was intelligent, and that he was gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide.” (pg. 103)

Only one of these is true.

(I’ll let you read the book and find out for yourself. 😀 )

Anachron (one of my favorite creators) has designed a slew of goodies just for men!

For both Aziraphale and Crowley, there is an Ancient Hero outfit, a Formal Fantasy suit, and a Noble House outfit for you to choose from.

Park Place (another favorite!) put together an amazing set of decor items, based on Aziraphale’s bookstore.

Aziraphale isn’t really interested in selling books, but rather collecting them.

The novel tells us he uses “every means short of physical violence to prevent customers from making a purchase. Unpleasant damp smells, glowering looks, erratic opening hours — he [is] incredibly good at it.” (pg. 43)

The decor items from Park Place are based on the descriptions of the back room of Aziraphale’s shop, and I think they are spot on!

ATP Good Omens Aziraphale Desk Set

“The back room of his bookshop contains a table, chairs, and likely someplace to store copious amounts of alcohol, as he and Crowley have a proclivity for going back there for the sake of getting completely plastered and waxing philosophically on whatever suits their fancy” (pg. 47)

The set includes the desk, chair, bookcase, stack of books, rug, Agnes Nutter’s notes and book, scattered books, and some books of prophecy.

I love the worn wooden textures of the desk and the chair has very nice male and female sits in it.

Each piece is separate, so you can rez them where/how you like.

Aziraphale is wearing the Formal Fantasy suit from Anachron – I love the look of the vest with the long jacket.

It’s mesh and comes in 5 standard sizes – it’s all one piece, so it speeds up time spent faffing with your wardrobe. 😛

Thrown over the back of Aziraphale’s chair, you’ll see another fantastic item – the Miamai Aziraphale hat.

If you’re a hat person, Miamai has both Aziraphale’s hat (in 3 different colors) and a hat for Crowley as well (again in 3 colors).

In addition, Aziraphale’s hat comes with halo/no halo options (the no halo hat is pictured here) and the Crowley version has horns/no horns options.

As an avid reader myself, I always pictured Aziraphale curled up in a nook, poring over his (well, sort of) copy of Agnes Nutter’s Prophecies.

ATP Good Omens Aziraphale Book

Rook and 22769 created items that fit my mental image perfectly.

This comfy wingback reading chair from Rook has a stand pose built-in (seen here), as well as a an additional seated pose (click on the book stack for it).

I love the look of 22769’s creation – such an important book as The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter deserves a special place. 😀

If you haven’t read Good Omens and you like satire and sarcasm (because, who doesn’t?!), you should purchase a copy today.

(Also, if you’re British, you’ll probably understand more of the jokes than I did, a poor Yank who’s never seen the M25.)

Stop by the Library and pick up some (or all) of these gems for yourself!

A Tattered Page – Good Omens Opens Today!!

ATP Good Omens LogoOne of my favorite events on the grid is A Tattered Page.

It makes my little literary heart sing to find an event that encourages people to – gasp! – read a book. 😛

When I heard they were looking for bloggers, I applied, though I didn’t really expect to be chosen.

This round the book is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

I had read the book before, but I reread it a few weeks ago, just to refresh my memory.

It was just as funny the second time through.

The basic story is that the Anti-Christ is arriving, and thus the world as we know it will be ending.

Crowley (a demon) and Aziraphale (an angel), who have grown quite fond of Earth and each other, try to figure out their places in the ‘ineffable plan.’

However, the Anti-Christ is placed with the wrong family thanks to a loquacious Satanic nun, and hilarity ensues.

There are some scary characters in the novel, i.e. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

One of the horsemen is War, who is a woman known as Scarlett.

She is described in the book thus:

“Her hair was true auburn, neither ginger nor brown, but deep and burnished copper-color, and it fell to her waist in tresses that men would kill for, and indeed often had. Her eyes were a startling orange. She looked twenty-five, and always had.’  (pg. 44)

She is, of course, beautiful.

However, she is described as beautiful “the way a forest fire was beautiful: something to be admired from a distance, not up close.” (pg. 104)

War is certainly a notable character in the novel, and was the inspiration behind two amazing items for this round.

ATP Good Omens War Helmet 2

War rides a motorcycle in the book, and I always imagined her as the smokin’ hot biker babe.

This incredible helmet from Eclectica was inspired by the following excerpt:

“There was something about the sight of a beautiful woman on a powerful motorbike with a sword stuck on the back that had a powerful effect on a certain type of man. So far four traveling salesmen had tried to race her, and bits of Ford Sierra now decorated the crash barriers and bridge supports along forty miles of motorway.” (pg. 233)

ATP Good Omens War Helmet

War is wearing the black version, but the helmet also comes in pale and, of course, red.

The helmet is modifiable for easy resizing (make a copy first!) and you can also alter the transparency of the visor if you’d like.

After she steps off the bike, things get even more dangerous.

ATP Good Omens War Dress

The War Dress by Luminary is fitmesh and comes in a variety of colors – red, blue, cream, sky, and black.

“‘Thanks for the warning,’ Scarlett purred. Her voice sounded like something that lurks in the long grass, visible only by the twitching of its ears, until something young and tender wobbles by.” (pg. 47)

I love the plunging neckline on the gown and the black side panels which help emphasize your curves.

If you’d like to snag these goodies for yourself (and who wouldn’t?!), stop by The Library.

Don’t forget to check out the other goodies for sale – there are some amazing creators in this event!

The event opens July 7 at noon SLT and runs through July 31st.

Hello Weekend!

It’s finally Friday!!

Which means I still have an a**load of stuff to do before tomorrow.

I was up bright and early this morning to start cleaning (I was supposed to do that yesterday, but I got distracted working on LOTD pics). 😀

When I logged in yesterday, more news – things are in flux for everyone lately, it seems.

Performance Art

The latest issue of Rez Magazine had an interesting article about a possible new ‘performance art’ venue opening in SL.

Yummy was the first one I know of to apply that term to the new direction that many dance performers seem to be heading.

I think it’s more appropriate than ‘burlesque’ or ‘neo-burlesque’ or ‘cabaret,’ and it seems to be gaining traction, given the number of times I’ve heard/seen it lately.

Performance art, to me, means that I will be able to see something someone has created from their soul – a piece with layers of meaning, some obvious, some not, some hidden even from the performance artist him/herself.

It’s entertainment, yes, but also so much more than that – a story, a feeling, evoking emotions (positive and/or negative) from the audience.

It will be interesting to see how this shift impacts current/future performers in SL.

There are a TON of events going on right now – as always seems to be the case in SL.

Collabor88 opens their current round today.

I’m never lucky enough to get in on the first day, so I’ll probably stop by sometime next week.

We ❤ Role Play is open now, and there are some gorgeous items I want to pick up, if I can ever find the time. 😛

FaMESHed is also open and celebrating their anniversary.

Join the group (it’s free), and pick up a TON of free anniversary gifties.

The Chapter 4 is open, also celebrating an anniversary, so stop by there for some free goodies as well.

This weekend also has a number of dance shows in addition to the regular weekend fare.

Fusion Dance Crew is putting on a show on Saturday, as are the Breezes Dancers.

I think the Waterfront Theater is also looking for acts for their variety show next month, so if you’re interested in that, check it out.

Sadly, I probably won’t have time to attend many (if any) shows this weekend, so if you go, take lots of pics and share them!

Enjoy your weekend, folks!

New Shoes and Viewers

Tuesday was one of my favorite events – 21 Shoe!

I am a shoe-aholic in SL.

I can never have too many shoes.

And since 21 Shoe is a two-fer event, it’s even better!

YS&YS – Rapallo – White

I love high-heeled shoes, and with my Maitreya body, I love them even more.

After doing some shoe shopping, I decided to try out something else – a new viewer.

I’ve been a Firestorm user for a long time, back when it was Phoenix, and before that, when it was Emerald.

I have just never been comfortable with the official viewer – it makes my head hurt.

But after a group chat conversation in a blogging group, I decided to try out some other TPV’s for comparison.

I’ll have a write-up on my opinions in a later post. 🙂

But I will say that I am in LOOOOOOOOOVE with the Black Dragon viewer at the moment.

Essenz LA Peach
Essenz – Los Angeles – Peach

I can take hi-res photos and it refreshes instantly.

With Firestorm, there’s always those few seconds of, “Am I crashing? Please don’t crash! Please!” when I take hi-res photos.

So, I logged in this morning with the Black Dragon viewer and snapped some pics of these gorgeous shoes.

I’m still trying to figure out the UI and where all the settings are, but there are a few features I love.

I also tried out Alchemy, Singularity, and CtrlAltStudio.

Anyway, back to shoes!!

I have begun phasing out any shoes but ones for Slink and Maitreya feet.

Iris Wine
MyADDICTION – Iris – Wine

I run ALM all the time, and invisiprim shoes look horrible with it. 😦

Even some mesh shoes can look odd.

But shoes like these?

Some of the designers were new to me, but I will definitely be revisiting them in the future.

Do you have a favorite shoe designer?

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

ATP 20KA Tattered Page is now open and the novel this round is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

There were lots of great items, but one in particular stood out for me.

Captain Nemo’s Library.

When I saw it, I knew I had to have it.

Complete with books, a ladder, and a viewing window, it is exactly as I always imagined it would look.

ATP Nemo Lib LadderI love the animations included with this piece.

You can sit on the ledge, watch the whale outside the window, or look for a good book to pass the time.

The candle lamp is touch on/off.

After playing around with the library, my mind is swimming with ideas.

(See what I did there? 😛 )

I even passed up the cute framed narwhal art in favor of the library.

Don’t miss out on this amazing event and this awesome piece.

The Martian Chronicles

It’s funny how things fall together sometimes.

A class led me to a store called Fallen Gods, Inc.

The creator happened to be involved in an event called ‘A Tattered Page.’

Being a bibliophile, I was curious.

It turned out to be an event where each round is based on a particular novel.

I was instantly hooked.

The first round was based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

This round focuses on Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles.

While there have been some amazing creations from these events, the part that tickles me the most is that people are inspired to actually read the books.

For me, it doesn’t get any better than that. 😀

The event is open for another two weeks, so be sure and visit.

I did, and I picked up some really wonderful items.

MartianChroniclesThe ‘Battle Mask’ is from Chaos, Panic, and Disorder. I saw it and had to have it.

Same goes for this gorgeous dress from Pale Empress.

The Usher II comes with a color change HUD, providing 12 color options.

The necklace is actually from Chop Zuey, but it matched so well I just had to wear it.

You can stop by the Tattered Page Library and pick up these and other amazing items.

They have already announced the book for the next round and it is 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

I can’t wait to see what incredible items that book inspires. 😛

Happy shopping and reading!

Sci-Fi Lovers Unite!

ST TOSIt’s been announced that the 8th Annual SL Sci-Fi Convention will open on February 20th and run through Sunday, March 1.

A while ago, the people behind the convention were asking for name submissions for the 6 six sims that will hold the convention.

The theme of the convention is ‘sci-fi resorts’ and they have compiled the list and asked people to vote here.

I don’t know how much longer the voting will remain open, but head over there and vote for your favorite submissions.

The convention is a RFL event, so start saving up your L$ for a good cause. 😀

Then head into your inventory and dig out your favorite sci-fi outfit and get ready for fun!!!

I threw on a couple of Star Trek uniforms I’ve had forever and visited a few ST sims just to get in the mood. 🙂

I even managed to find the time portal.  It’s located somewhere on Vulcan, I think.  It gets so confusing when you are planet-hopping. 😛

ST NGI’m not sure what city/planet is showing up on the portal, but it looks beautiful.

Although the atmosphere on Vulcan was absolute hell on my fair skin.

Seriously, where can a girl get a facial around here?

Calling All Anglophiles!!

LOTW NecklaceI recently joined the SL Blogger Support group – yay!!!

Yesterday I received a notice about an event called Leaf on the Wind.

Leaf on the Wind is a fundraising event that will be held to benefit Scarlet Chandrayaan, owner of Alouette, in hopes of helping make her wish come true of visiting London.

Scarlet (Amy) has been diagnosed with cancer, cancer that she fought off before.  It has returned and this time it’s worse.  The doctors have given her 2 years at the most if she just continues on with life as it is at the moment and makes the most of the time she has left.

The creators behind the event want to thank any and all of you who send Scarlet (Amy) well wishes and words of support, and for those of you who donate to this worthy cause.

As someone who has lost several family members to cancer, this event touched a nerve.

Plus, I’m an anglophile, so an ‘all things London’ event was too good to miss!

The sim has been set up and vendors are busily placed their London-themed items out.

There are tons of items – furniture, clothing, shoes, jewelry – you name it.  There are also some very cute gacha items.

I snagged the necklace you see in the first photo – a steal at only $99L! And the creator is graciously donating 100% of the proceeds to the fundraiser.

There are also various items to bid on in the auction.

There will be an Auction/Bid Board area for the duration of the event and on the last Saturday, the 31st of January, there will be a DJ event and winners of the auction prizes will be announced.  All auction items are special deals with values of L$1000 and upwards.

I had a great time wandering around and looking at the all the cool stuff.  I wish some of it was available in RL, as I have a family member who would be gaga over some of the items!

DonationsThe event opens to public on January 10, so be sure and check it out.

I found this guy wandering around asking for donations.

I can’t resist a man in a bow-tie, so asked if he would snap a quick pic with me.

While I was shopping, I picked up a darling dress from Anachron and just had to put it on immediately.

Before I knew it, it was my turn in the kissing booth.

Kissing BoothGuess who showed up?

His insistence on multiple selfies was annoying, but at least I look good in the dress from Anachron!

I paired it with some jewelry from League and some cute boots (which you unfortunately can’t see in this pic).

When you visit, be sure to keep an eye out for this guy!
