2015 Reflections

As 2015 is winding down, it seems that people are all taking a step back to reflect and evaluate the year.

In RL, I had a few losses, and lots of joys.  Same in SL.  🙂

I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions, but I do set some goals for myself. If I meet them, great!  If I don’t, that’s okay too.

Most of my goals are things I’d like to do or learn, and I don’t tie them to a year.  Heck, I know some of my goals will take longer than a year.

I’m still working on projects that I started last year, and I hope I will continue working on them for several more years, at least.

This year in SL I started teaching dance classes and I am loving every minute of it!  The students have been terrific and I can’t wait to see what 2016 is like.

I’ve learned a lot this year working with Photoshop, and I plan to continue that in 2016.  I bought a Wacom tablet, and one of my smaller goals is to learn how to use it.

One of the things I’d love to do is learn to work with mesh.  Approaching Blender is a bit like approaching a cockpit when you have no idea what all the buttons and knobs do and someone tells you you have to fly the plane. 😛

So I will be working on learning Blender in 2016.  I’m pretty sure this is a project that will take me more time than I want it to!

I’m also working on learning more about using the Artiste and incorporating all of its features into my dancing – no small task, indeed. 😀

Whatever 2016 brings, I know I will have plenty to keep me busy, in both RL and SL.

Nai has recently started up a new blog/website for the Blue Moon (check it out here if you haven’t already).

He is also starting a ‘365’ project.

Each week, he will set a theme with prompts to inspire him to write, sketch, take a photo, whatever.

He’s invited others to participate as well, so I’m going to join in the fun. 🙂

The theme for this first week of January is TIME.

So my first offering is going to be this blog post.

Since it’s only the 4th day of January, and we’re fresh off the whole ‘Happy New Year’s’ thing, time is a subject that’s been on my mind.

Hubs’ birthday is coming up this week, mine is next month, and then I’m going to blink and my kids will be heading out into the real world.

Where did all the time go?

It seems like just yesterday my kids were little, needing help to brush their teeth, wanting me to kiss their boo-boos better.

When did they grow up?

In fact, I’m wondering where the first week of the New Year has gone – 2015 is flying by already!

Here’s hoping I have enough time to accomplish all the things I’d like to this year.  😀

2015

So far, 2015 is turning out to be a bang-up year.

I spent New Year’s Day with my favorite people, saw a great movie, and ate at one of our favorite restaurants.

After getting back home, I logged in to do some blogging and some housekeeping in SL.

Since I’ve started the LOTD feature on the blog, I did some research on graphics/computer settings and watched some Photoshop tutorials.

I decided to bump up my graphics setting to Ultra and see what happened.

Hubs bought me a new graphics card a while ago, and last week he increased the RAM in my PC.

He’s currently shopping for a new processor for me, but in the meantime, I wanted to see how well I could run SL on Ultra.

After making all the changes, I decided to do some shopping and exploring.

I am loving my new mesh body, but I was debating whether to get a new shape and/or skin to go with it.

The League announced that they had released appliers for the Maitreya bod, so I went over and picked up some skin and shape demos.

I think I picked up around 5 new shapes and 6 new skins to try out.

I spent about an hour trying on the various shapes and skins.

I didn’t like any of the new shapes.

They just weren’t – me.

So for now, I am keeping my shape.

I tried all the skin demos from Glam Affair and League.

I managed to narrow it down to three choices – two from Glam Affair and one from League.

I must say, it clearly has been a while since I went skin shopping, as I about dropped my teeth at some of the prices.

After doing some price comparisons, and debating the ease of use with my new mesh body, I opted for one of the Glam Affair skins.

I like the League skin and I may go back and get one later, but for now, the GA skin is good.  One click on my body HUD and everything matches – head, hands, feet.

I managed to travel around and do my shopping without crashing, so I figured it was safe to try and take some photos with everything on Ultra.

I put on an outfit and headed out to find a picturesque sim to snap a few shots.

I am AMAZED at how much better my photos came out.  I mean, I knew they would be better, but I didn’t realize just how much.

I played around with some poses and a couple of windlights and took a few pictures.

My computer was a little slow in making some of the changes, but I didn’t crash.

When I went and opened the photos in Photoshop, I was even more amazed.

In the past I have always had to do some editing of a photo to get it to look somewhat decent.

I am by no means a Photoshop wiz, but I would smooth out edges, add some shadows, etc.

This time, all I did was crop the photo and resize it so it would load decently on the blog.

That’s it.

I am excited about how much time I can save without having to edit every photo I take.

And I’m excited about how much better everything in SL looks, including me!

Here’s to a great 2015!!

Looking Forward

Today’s is New Year’s Eve and after reflecting yesterday on 2014, I’m looking forward to 2015.

2015 will bring some major changes in my RL, but joyous ones.

I have a lot of goals and opportunities I’d like to pursue in 2015; however, after looking over my somewhat lengthy list, I can boil them down to a few categories.

  1. Create more (in both SL and RL)
  2. Dance more (ditto)
  3. Have fun and make memories

I’ve watched too many people work hard, struggle to get ahead, and miss out on what’s really important.

The things in life that are most important aren’t things.

In 2015 I will play more, work less, and love most.

What are your goals for the coming year?

As the new year approaches, I am looking ahead and settings goals for 2015.

I have several opportunities that have come my way and I hope to take advantage of all them.

One of the things I’ve decided to do is start a Look Of The Day post.  Just a quick shot of me wearing an outfit I put together (this is mainly to give me a reason to sort through my inventory).  I will title them all LOTD, so if you’re not interested in them, feel free to skip right over those posts.

If you like it, great, if you don’t (or I don’t) then I can toss the items and voilá – less inventory!

I picked up a LOT of stuff over the advent season, so I need to go through and see what I actually have.

And Devy sent me a link to a new shoe store, so now I need more room for shoes!

What new things are you hoping to accomplish in 2015?
