It’s always a sad day when a dance venue closes in SL. I heard through the grapevine that Winds of Sahara Cabaret will be closing their doors. 😦
I’m not sure what happened, but heard that they would be doing two more shows – one last night and one next week. However, I’m not sure that the show planned for next week will actually happen. After hearing more chatter from the grapevine, I went over to Winds to see for myself, and this is what I found:
If you look closely, you can see the little forlorn tip jars that graced the front of the stage, although the stage itself has disappeared.
The majority of the building is gone, with the exception of a few walls.
The booths are gone, though the seating near the front of the stage is still there.
I used to dance at Winds (it seems like a lifetime ago now), and I have some very fond memories of it.
Warming up backstage, watching other dancers cache their dances and costumes, the camaraderie and joking chit chat that went on. Good times.
Today, this is what I found left of the backstage area:
A few rez boxes, a show order, and the chairs we used to occupy until it was our turn to hit the stage.
I met some really amazing people during my time there.
Nothing lasts forever, they say.
I wonder what will happen to my favorite Danish MC?
Winds is indeed closing it’s doors – there will be a last show this week though, the leftovers you see in the pictures are the sad remnants of a clean-up needed to avoid getting spammed with returned items should the sim (against all logic) throw us out before Sunday’s show. Here’s the “official” announcement made during last night’s show;
“…it is with great sadness that we must announce the end of an era! This sim will be closing soon and Winds’ home in the desert will be no more – and thus, rather than be homeless, the decision have been made to close Winds for good. There will be ONE LAST SHOW NEXT WEEK, then the christmas vacation hits but after New Year we will not be opening the curtains for another show!
This of course means next week’s holiday special – HO HO and more HOs – will be the last EVER chance to see this troupe in action! If there was already a good reason to get here early…it just got even better! I can promise you; Winds is not going to it’s grave quietly!
So come celebrate the holidays, remember the 80-something shows in these hallowed halls and let us bid you all a very fond farewell!”
(not at all a hidden advertisement to come to this week’s show AT ALL!!! *coughs* though if you’re reading this and you don’t have anything better to do come by Sunday 5 pm slt for the last show in the desert – and get there early!! we’re throwing a HUUUUGE show)
~Diiar, soon to be ex-emcee at Winds of the Sahara Cabaret (and I wonder too^^)
Hopefully the group of Winds dancers will reinvent itself in another home after Christmas. As a frequent audience member and supporter I certainly hope so. I’m very glad to see that Sunday’s show will go ahead and I hope there will be a great crowd to celebrate with them.
I think many of the dancers (who, I imagine, knew long before the rest of us) have made plans for their next adventure. We’ll still see them dancing around the grid, I’m sure!!
Er that’s JMB Balogh disguised as a Westie.
