2015 – Year of the Male Dancer?

Just as in RL, SL experiences trends – and dance is no exception.

As the end of the year approaches, I have noticed a definite up-tick in the number of troupes who are looking for male dancers.

The need for male dancers is nothing new and something I’ve mentioned before.   There seems to be a real lack of men in dance.  There have always been a few, but they have always been outnumbered by the number of female dancers.

However, in just the last week or so, I have come across notices from several troupes looking specifically for male dancers.  I have also noticed a number of troupes who are doing more and more mixed gender dances than in the past.

So if you’re a frustrated female dancer, perhaps a male avi is the ticket to more opportunities?

Something to think about.

I’ll be watching to see how many performances have male dancers this weekend while I’m attending the Dance Queens festival.

Should be interesting!

(Btw, if you’re looking for some nice eye candy, a Google search for ‘male dancer’ might be just the ticket!) 😀

  1. I think the lack of male dancers is partly due to the lack of distinctively male/masculine dance animations (or vice versa, there’s no demand for male dances, thus no one makes them… it’s a vicious circle). Only a fraction of the dances out there would work with a male avi, unless they’re going for that gay stripper style.

    1. Lol. Yes, it does seem that most male dancers use the faster, more urban-type dances. But I have seen a few male dancers pull off the more ‘sensual’ dances quite well. And as more and more routines seem to incorporate couples dances, I’m guessing we’ll be seeing more and more men incorporated as well. 🙂

    1. I’m still curious about the dearth of male dancers. Is it because many female avatars actually have men behind them, as rumor has it?

  2. Nope. I firmly believe dancing is not perceived by many men as manly, and does not hold the interest of men. Give us spanners. Dirty rags. Jack Russell Terriers and we are happy.
