This is a topic I think about a lot. As a performer, I am always trying to come up with ideas for routines. Sometimes inspiration strikes right away and sometimes it takes a while.
Sometimes you know exactly what you want to do, but it takes time for all the various pieces to fall into place. Recently, for example, I performed a routine that I have had in mind for probably over a year. I heard a song that I just loved (still do, even though I listened to it 9 million times while choreographing!) and I knew instantly what I wanted to do with it. But the timing was just never right for me to perform the routine.
Other times inspiration seems to elude me. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to come up with some ideas for routines themed with the upcoming holidays. I still have no idea what I’m going to do. In the meantime, I’ve come up with a couple of other ideas (not holiday themed) that I am going to begin working on.
Maybe working on those will lead to some sort of inspiration down the holiday road.
What about you? Where do you find your inspiration? When you’re having trouble coming up with ideas, what do you do to recharge your creativity?
So odd you brought this up cause I have been thinking of posting something on DQs about this. I have a heap of things I do that I find really inspire me, I need to type them and post them. Maybe they might help someone else. I do creativity challenges for Elysium dancers from time to time. One thing I do is, I go to Google images and type in a word, see what comes up. I find a pic that really fascinates me and turn it into a dance. I need to make a list of some of the things I do. After I sleep!! Brain-dead right now.
Do it!!! After you get some shut-eye, of course. 🙂 I’ve seen a few of the creativity challenges and they were awesome. Inspiration comes from all over – music, pictures – it would be nice to have some ideas for when you hit that proverbial brick wall!
